Historical Perspective:  This art show started as an Art Tour of members homes. Trever Bennett, a well-known artist and member of the Victor Valley branch, had a dream of an Art Tour for the Victor Valley. She envisioned a display of art in different media from oil to watercolor, from pen and ink to sculpture, glass, pottery, bronze and photography. The whole idea was to tell people about the great number of talented artists in the High Desert. The first Art Tour was sponsored by the Victor Valley branch in 1996. It was staged at three Apple Valley studios/residences. Bob and Susan Curwen, Ray and Trever Bennett, and Don and Jeri Balick provided the studios/residences. Over 30 artists participated – many were members of our branch. The ticket sales, as well as a percentage of the sales of the art objects were donated to the memorial scholarship fund. Evelyn Blocker and Trever Bennett were in charge of the first event.
Over the years, Trever Bennett, Marjorie Miller and Al Jean Manning have been directors of the Art Tours. We have been fortunate to have such good leaders. We plan to keep Trever Bennett’s dream alive and continue helping women going back to school through our Memorial Scholarship Fund at Victor Valley College.
